I love all things nostalgia/family/holidays and this year we established some sweet traditions for our crew. Joseph and I used an idea found on the Desiring God website to create a Holy Week devotional/candle lighting tradition for our kids. We adapted the idea and created the following tradition. For the 7 nights (5 for us since we were out of town this year) leading up to good Friday we lit candles (1 for each night, so 7 by Friday) and read scripture. Joseph followed scripture from the catholic Holy Week litergy and it was awesome. Of course much went over the heads of our babes but they got some concepts, asked questions and loved it. We said prayers and sang hymns following each reading. We also gave the kids a sweet easter treat each night. On good Friday we lit all the candles one last time but afterwards and until Sunday morning there were no treats or candles to signify Christ's death on the cross. On Sunday we lit all the candles and gave our kids a larger prize to celebrate our RISEN SAVIOR! It was sweet, simple and meaningful for all of us.
JD planned a simple backyard Easter egg hunt and our good friends the O's did the same thing for a group of our friends kids so we have been eating too much candy. It was sweet to see our kids get excited about the meaning of easter and also shower them with fun and treats. Our babies are only young once and I plan to soak it all up, even the nutty sugar highs that I once didn't believe in (SO real).
Isaiah 53:5
But he was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was on him, and by his wounds we are healed.
